How long does SEO take? An honest timeline for growing businesses
SEO takes months, not weeks. Here’s what actually happens along the way, and the factors that change the timeline for your business.
Ahmedabad
Search for a digital marketing agency in Ahmedabad and you’ll find dozens of firms describing themselves as “leading”, “trusted” and “results-driven”. The adjectives don’t help you decide. The questions below do, because the answers reveal how an agency actually works.
A good agency asks about your business before it talks about its services: your goals, your margins, your sales process, who your best customers are, and what you’ve already tried. If the proposal arrives before those questions, it was written for someone else and adapted for you.
This is the quickest honesty test there is. An agency that thinks in outcomes will happily tell you that you don’t need, say, heavy paid media until your website converts, or that SEO alone won’t fill a launch calendar. An agency that sells packages will struggle to name anything.
Ask what gets reported, how often, and why. Impressions, reach and follower counts are easy to grow and easy to misread. Look for reporting tied to enquiries, lead quality, cost per lead and revenue, and a clear explanation of how conversions will be tracked (pixel, GA4 events, call and WhatsApp tracking) before money is spent.
Nobody can honestly guarantee a #1 Google ranking or a specific return on ad spend. Rankings depend on Google’s algorithm and competitors; ad returns depend on your category, offer and landing page. An agency that is comfortable saying so is usually more trustworthy than one that guarantees results to win the pitch. (We wrote more about how long SEO really takes.)
Almost every campaign ends on a web page. If the agency runs your ads but a separate developer owns the site, fixes to a slow or confusing landing page turn into a back-and-forth that nobody owns. Ask whether the same team can change the pages campaigns send traffic to, on WordPress, Webflow or whatever you run.
In Ahmedabad, many enquiries start on WhatsApp long before anyone fills in a form. An agency that understands the local market will plan for that: click-to-WhatsApp buttons, tracking for those clicks, and a response process that doesn’t leave warm leads waiting overnight.
Case studies should show a challenge, what changed, and what happened, ideally with the client named. Be wary of portfolios that are only screenshots, testimonials that read like marketplace gig reviews, or numbers without context. A short call with an existing client is worth more than any slide.
Ask who writes the strategy, who produces the content, who manages the ad accounts and who you talk to every week. You want to know whether the people in the pitch are the people on the account.
A credible plan has a sequence: audit and tracking first, then quick fixes, then campaigns and content, then optimisation. If the first month is “we start posting”, the strategy is probably a content calendar.
Put two or three shortlisted agencies side by side and score each answer from one to three. Specific, honest answers that talk about your business score high. Vague answers, guarantees and adjectives score low. The agency with the highest score isn’t always the cheapest, but it is usually the one that will still make sense to you six months in.
